Jake - short for "Jake the Peg" - was a prototype board developed by DJW Microsystems with a single, focused purpose: MPEG video playback.
The design was minimalistic, relying heavily on the capabilities of the C-Cube CL450 MPEG decoder chip, which handled most of the processing. In addition to the decoder, the board included a small amount of DRAM and a MACH110 CPLD used for basic glue logic.
There are no components on the rear side of the board.
As with the ComDec board, Jake connects via an ISA slot, used solely to draw power—intended for both Amiga and planned PC-based multimedia systems.
Although it never reached production, Jake was part of DJW Microsystems' broader vision for an integrated, modular multimedia solution based on the Avatar architecture.
