I received the following tip from BBoAH user Petri:
I attached pictures of my Real HD-Drive with Sony MPF920-E mechanism. I discovered following things:
- Drive is jumpered as DS1 (default) - Drive's cable pin34 is unmodified /DCD, the adaptor PCB moves it to cable pin2 - Under the red silicone is two very thin wires, which easily snap to pieces - IC2 (BA6986FS) has trace cut on pin16 (originally going to IC1 pin38) - and IC2 pin16 is rewired to cable connector pin6* - IC1 (CXA8061Q) pin38 is rewired to cable pin14* - JC40 at cable pin4 has jumper resistor installed, which seems to be usually missing in most of MPF920 pics. HD sense for the PAL chip?
* Most likely connection. I cut the wires to pieces (duh) when I removed the silicone
